Weeding brings me joy
There's something I find extremely satisfying about yanking unwanted plants from my gardens. The vibration of the roots as they are unceremoniously and forcefully removed from the ground brings me joy.
Riding the crimson wave
Perimenopause. It's quite common to read about it these days, which for me, is refreshing. After all, it's a natural and beautiful phase of life. Like puberty.
Grilled Cheese
Have you every tried a 5-cheese grilled cheese sandwich with peanut butter and bananas? Me neither, but I know someone who has.
Closer to fine: Trust your gut
Sometimes my clients get caught up in wanting to know the “whys” of the situations - why this happened or why they reacted a certain way. So much time can be spent trying to figure out the whys without getting any closer to the answers.
Toilet Paper
Is there a connection between a bathroom hygiene product and behavior change?
Hang on a sec…
I've been a fan of “the pause” for a while now. But as much as I believe in the power of the pause there are more times than I'd like to admit that I don't implement it as I'd like.
Finding Role Models
I regularly think about who my role models are as I try to improve the quality of my life. When it comes to behavior change, it can be helpful to have role models. Having role models is related to motivation. It brings to life your reasons to change by allowing you to see the end results play out in real life.
Making Memories
I have tried to create fond ice cream-related memories with my family. Strangely enough, it’s been a challenge.
Motivation
I can’t tell you how many clients have told me that they just need to find their motivation. And, at the same time, I can’t tell you how many clients have told me that they are motivated, but just can’t make the change. So which is it?
Assumptions
I remember my mom saying that she had a talent for killing silk plants. I think a part of me absorbed that belief into my own identity and it took a long time for me to figure out that I actually could grow things.
Actions matter
Words have less meaning if they don’t have the accompanying actions to support them. How many of us have told a friend, “I’ll call you later” and then didn’t? I know I have. I also know that as a result, the next time I’m talking with that friend and the conversation ends in the same way, they may have some doubt that I’ll follow through. I have become less reliable, or perhaps even less credible, in their eyes.
Words matter
Words matter. From a young age I was taught, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I have (hopefully) taught my kids about being kind with their words when speaking with others and about themselves.
Movies for inspiration
The first part of the movie shows Brittany making changes with relative ease. Alas, for entertainment value and to reflect real life, change is rarely that easy. After a while, Brittany started to struggle. She had bad moments and bad months, backtracked with her habits, questioned her values and strengths and swallowed her pride.
What is coaching exactly?
As the profession of health and wellness coaching grows, I’ve noticed more and more articles online about the benefits of working with a coach. However, I still feel there is a disconnect between reading some of those articles and understanding how working with a coach can make a difference. As such, here are some real examples of my coaching real people.
To accept…or not
Change is HARD, even if you want it. But that doesn’t mean we should give up and accept our pain, fatigue, weight gain, irritability or whatever.
